She was born Salma Hayek Jiménez on this day September 2, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico to Sami Hayek and Diana Jiménez. Hayek’s paternal grandparents were Mexicans of Lebanese descent, while her mother is of Spanish descent and her first name in Arabic means peace or calm. She was raised in a devoutly Catholic family and attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, at the age of 12. In 1994, Hayek starred in El Callejón de los Milagros (Miracle Alley), which has won more awards than any other movie in the history of Mexican cinema. She has appeared in over thirty movies including, Desperado in 1995, From Dusk Till Dawn 1995 a very cool movie, Fools Rush 1997, Dogma 1999, Wild Wild West 1999, Frida 2002, Once Upon a Time in Mexico 2003, Bandidas 2006, and Lonely Hearts 2007, just to name a few. Hayek has also acted in countless television appearances, as well as being credited as a song performer in three movies. She also co- produced the movie Frida and is now an executive producer of television and movies in English and Spanish. She has just finalized negotiations in April 2007, with MGM to become the CEO of her own Latin themed film production company named Ventanazul. She even does charitable work including increasing awareness on violence against women and discrimination against immigrants. In July 2007 a poll found Salma to be the “sexiest celebrity” out of a field of 3,000 other celebrities. According to the poll, “65 percent of the U.S. population would use the term ‘sexy’ to describe” her. I would have to agree, it was hard to settle on the photos I chose for this post. She is even HOT with that unibrow in the movie Frida!
