On this day August 30, 1968 The Beatles released the song “Hey Jude” with Apple Records for the first time. Have you ever heard it? Thanks to mukkymukk for the video.
OK, I know I said that Led Zeppelin was the greatest Rock and Roll band of all time but that was with the understanding that the Beatles are in a class all their own. So with that understood here is Help by The Beatles The Greatest Rock and Roll band of all time. By the way this song was a chart topper on this day August 22, 1965. Thanks to jemmytaveras for the video.

After seeing the photos, I wonder why I never watched the show Sex in the City. I remember Kim Catrall from a silly but funny movie Mannequin. She was born Clare Woodgate in Liverpool, England, UK on this day August 21, 1956. She is a Golden Globe and Emmy nominated actress who is probably best known today for her role as Samantha Jones on Sex and the City. She has had a very successful acting career long before Sex, in movies that are to many to list but here are a few that I recognize, Mannequin, Police Academy, Porky’s, Tribute, Masquerade, Big Trouble in Little China, The Bonfire of the Vanities, Exception To The Rule, Live Nude Girls, Robin Cook’s Invasion, The Return of the Musketeers, and for all the Trekkies out there, Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country. Not only do I not recall seeing Kim in some of the movies I listed above or the fact that she made about a zillion more movies than I listed, she also had many television appearances and stared on Broadway in numerous shows.

Born Darrell Lance Abbott aka Diamond Darrell was born on this day August 20, 1966 in Arlington, Texas. Darrell, his brother Vinnie Paul and Phil Anselmo formed the band Pantera in 1981. Pantera produced some awesome music till the split in 2003. Sadly on December 8, 2004 Darrell was shot and killed on stage. RIP I picked the most mellow song I think Patera ever made, Cemetery Gates but it still Rocks! Thanks to eu396 for the video.
OK, so I’ll fess up, not everything I listened to was heavy. Since The Police brought me back to 1977, it just so happens that this song Read the rest of this entry »

She was only 5 years old when she started winning prizes for her performances in shows. As I read about Mae Jane West born this day August 17, 1893 in Woodhaven, New York, it became clear she was a tortured little girl, to say the least. What this woman’s Mother put her through as a child was just plain evil. It seems she became a product of her upbringing. Her stolen childhood obviously made her a tough, take no shit strong personality. As a person and Actress she was a hit and loved by many. I believe Mae was smart enough to turn the tables and use everything she was to her own advantage. She is remembered to this day for her witty one liners and the way she changed societal norms of sexual freedom even more than the many movies she stared in. I have nothing but respect for someone like her, who takes the hand she was dealt and flops a straight flush. She died on November 22, 1980. Obviously there is much more to her story that you can read about at these links. This is a good article by Nora Olsen. Mae West Home Page, Mae West Blog Spot

Just a thought I’m having. Thinking back a long time ago, when I was a teen, I remember seeing Billy Graham on Television (I didn’t have a good opinion about televangelist or even religion at the time) but what He said made me think. He said (something like this, I don’t recall his words exactly), either Jesus was and is who we believe Him to be, the Son of the Living God or He pulled the biggest prank in the history of the world. That made me stop and think about how He, Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies He fulfilled, like the prophecy of His actual birth. We as a people record Time by His very existence. If He did pull a prank like that, then we should worship Him just for pulling off such a prank! IMHO
Jesus Is Lord
God Bless

Sometimes I feel like Brooks in the Movie the Shawshank Redemption, and I just received my pardon. Now I’m out and wondering. How is the world moving so fast?
Woman’s World, Slightly Scarlet and Journey to the Center of the Earth to name just a few of the movies Arlene Dahl stared in but the movie she was best known for was The Bird Goes Wild in 1948. The last movie she appeared in was Night of the Warrior that stared her son Lorenzo Lamas, who also played in the 1978 movie Grease. She was voted the
Rheingold Beer Girl of 1946 and began her acting career in 1947, at the age of 19. She became one of the most beautiful actresses during the postwar period. Her acting career and popularity peaked in the 1950’s. Dahl also played Lucinda Schenck Wilson on the TV soap opera One Life to Live. She left her acting career and went to work as a columnist and writer. Arlene’s books include Always Ask A Man, Arlene Dahl’s Key to Femininity and Pretice Hall to name a few. Arlene Dahl was Born on this day August 11, 1924 in Minneapolis Minnesota. She also founded her own lingerie and cosmetics business, Arlene Dahl Enterprises. In December 1962 she posed seminude for Playboy magazine. Dahl also had a Relationship with John F. Kennedy before both she and Kennedy were married.
If you’ve ever felt like you are in a dream or even a nightmare, you just might be “on candid camera” which made its debut on this day August 10, 1948. I had no idea that show was that old.
When I went looking for a funny video from the early shows I ran across this one and it was very surprising to see the reluctance people had of flying with a female pilot. To think this was only 44 years ago in 1963 shows just how far we’ve come. These days we have females who fly in combat in the top of the line Military Attack Helicopters, The Apache. Thanks to SGrabo2640 for the video.

These days when you talk about a sick cult leader, your mind, at least my mind automatically goes to President AhmaGenocide (Ahmadinejad) with his sick under developed brain and the Jihad movement that follow him. He is not the demon I am talking about, the sicko I’m talking about had his so called family kill the beautiful young lady to the left. Sharon Tate on this day August 9, 1969.
Sharon Marie Tate was born January 24, 1943. She was a rising American actress and model, she played small roles on television in the 1960’s, before starting her film career. Sharon’s celebrity increased when she married film director Roman Polaski. May Sharon rest in peace and God bring comfort to her family. Although there are literally thousands of photos of Sharon, this one caught my eye as being very dreamy.
About the sick cult leader, his name is Charles Manson, and as Forest Gump would say, that’s all I have to say about that.
Established by General George Washington on this day August 7, 1782 at Newburgh, New York, during the Revolutionary War. The Purple Heart, originally designed as the Badge of Military Merit, while clearly an individual decoration, differs from all other decorations in that an individual is not “recommended” for the
decoration; rather he or she is entitled to it upon meeting specific criteria. Unfortunately that criteria is someone who has been wounded or killed, or who has died or may hereafter die after being wounded. The Badge of Military Merit was only awarded to three Revolutionary War soldiers and fell into disuse following the War of Independence. By Executive Order of the President of the United States, the Purple Heart was revived on the 200th Anniversary of George Washington’s birth, out of respect to his memory and military achievements, by War Department General Orders No. 3, dated February 22 1932. Elizabeth Will was named to redesign the newly revived medal, which became known as the Purple Heart. John R. Sinnock of the Philadelphia Mint was chosen to be the sculptor for the medal in May 1931. As with other combat medals, multiple awards are denoted by award stars for the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard, or oak leaf clusters for the Army and Air Force.
For more information go to Military Order of the Purple Heart
Update: Last night when I wrote this post I forgot the most important thing about the Purple Heart, that is to Thank all who have this Badge of Merit and also all whom have put themselves in a place that they could be a candidate for this Badge of Merit.Thank You for My Families and My Freedom.
